South West Chefs of The Year

The Salutation Inn is celebrating!

The Salutation Inn is celebrating resounding success at the South West Chef of the Year 2015 after both their sous and apprentice chef won in their respective categories on Thursday at the final of this prestigious regional competition.

Sous chef, James Mason won South West Young Professional Chef of the Year while apprentice Jack Sharland took the gong for South West Student Chef of the Year. The awards ceremony was hosted by judge and co-founder Michael Caines MBE on Friday night in Exeter following a challenging final held at Exeter College.

"As expected, the standard of entries to yesterday’s finals for the Student, Young Professional and Professional classes was again exceptional. Competition was stiff but all entrants seemed to really enjoy and get lots out of it. Last night’s celebratory dinner and awards ceremony was a fitting tribute to the amount of effort, skill and creativity shown by all our chefs from each of the five competition categories."

Of James and Jack’s success, Tom said:

"This is an amazing result to have both James and Jack winning in a tough competition against some of the best Chefs in the area. This is a true credit to them for all of their hard work and dedication here at The Salutation. The whole team were ecstatic when Jack's result was announced during service, and James winning a few moments later was the icing on the cake."
